It isnt always easy to find an amazing place to eat in Omaha. While our city is packed with great restaurants, finding the true gems can be difficult. Luckily the internet has made locating the corners with truly memorable stops all the easier. Weve put together a short list of three places right near Spaces Apartments that are June must-tries for anyone into food. Best of all, theyre all local spots, so youll be supporting the community! The Drover
This is easily one of the best places in Omaha for a steak. It's an old-school place with a casual feel. It's got a dark atmosphere with western decor. Service is attentive and friendly, but it's not an upscale place with upscale-type service. Either arrive right when they open or make reservations.
The wine list is decent. There's some good offerings by the glass. There's several appetizer options. There's numerous daily specials. With each steak, you automatically get soup or salad bar and a side (baked potato, fries, etc.). And, of course, there's complimentary bread. The salad bar was scanty and lackluster. Had I realized, I probably would've opted for the soup instead. Choosing a steak was difficult. So many options! I finally settled on one of the daily specials, a bone-in NY strip. You can get your steak plain or whiskied, their specialty. Why would you do anything other than their special way with whiskey? The steak was delicious and cooked perfectly. The steaks are the star here by far.
All in all, a good meal was had here. If you're wanting a real Omaha steak, this is the place to come. - Samantha G.
Blue & Fly Asian Kitchen
Stopped by Blue and Fly for lunch today. It's been on my list for a while and I wanted something different from the places I usually go. Decor was clean and classy, service moved smoothly. I had the lunch portion of Hot and Crispy Chicken with steamed rice and egg drop soup for $5.95. The soup came with crispy noodles which was a nice touch. I'm usually a little hesitant about fried
dishes at Chinese places because I've gotten some sketchy cuts and soggy bits before, but the chicken was wonderful - nice big chunks with a light, crispy batter. The sauce was a sweet chili base with a little kick and the portion size was perfect. I did find the fancy chopsticks a little unwieldy at first (the porcelain ends changed the weight a little) but quickly got the hang of them.
All in all a great deal! For more adventurous eaters there's plenty of authentic Chinese dishes on the menu as well. No fortune cookies here, but a cute little candy came with my tab. I'll definitely be back! - Layne G.
Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant
I saw this place quite a while ago and made a mental note that I wanted to go try it sometime, but forgot about it. We had a friend in town visiting, he saw it on Yelp and wanted to go. Having not eaten Ethiopian before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was excited to give it a try. We went with a combination platter. They make it for 2 people, but they were nice enough to just scale it up for the 3 of us for a small extra charge. I honestly don't know what most of the food was, but it was excellent. There wasn't anything on the plate I didn't like. It was a great value. For less than $8/person, we were all able to get absolutely stuffed. I highly recommend Lalibela and look forward to going back many times. - Matthew D.
