Spring Cleaning in the Community

Spring Cleaning in the CommunitySpaces Apartments knows how important spring cleaning can be to your closet, but what about spring cleaning around the city? With April upon us, spring cleaning projects for Omaha are gearing up, and that means volunteers are needed. Because April is Keep America Beautiful Month, we wanted to let you know about all the exciting opportunities for service this spring. Here’s a short list of projects we were able to find. Spring Clean Up Program The Spring Clean Up Program is a well-organized, city-wide cleanup effort that will focus on multiple locations over several weeks. This project provides several opportunities to serve in various capacities. Projects start April 16th and run on a weekly basis through the end of May. This will be a unique opportunity to combine your efforts with other volunteers to make a difference in Omaha. To learn more about the Spring Clean Up Program, see their brochure, or call this number: (402) 444-4636. Boyer Chute Wildlife Refuge With a wildlife refuge so close to the city, there’s always something you can do to help out near home. The refuge is open to volunteer work. Volunteers will help with taking care of local wildlife, maintenance of trails, and various other activities. Visit their website for more information. Adopt-A-Highway It may remind you of an episode on Seinfeld, but the Adopt-A-Highway program is an important part of keeping roads safe and clean for everyone. Sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Roads, the program is always looking for volunteers to help clean up; and you don’t even need to adopt a road to help out! The Great Nebraska Trash Off is an annual event held in April/May every year. Last year, 3,409 volunteers helped clean 526 miles of highway. To learn more about adopting a highway, or participating in the Great Nebraska Trash Off, visit the Adopt-A-Highway website. Now that spring is here, there are so many opportunities to help make Omaha a better place to live. These are just a few of the many ways you can get involved this spring. Do you know of another community service event this April? Let us know in the comments!
