Spring Cleaning in the Community-image

Spaces Apartments knows how important spring cleaning can be to your closet, but what about spring cleaning around the city? With April upon us, spring cleaning projects for Omaha are gearing up, and that means volunteers are needed. Because April is Keep America Beautiful Month, we wanted to let you know about all the exciting opportunities for service this spring. Here’s a short list of projects we were able to find. Spring Clean Up Program The Spring Clean Up Program is a well-organized, city-wide cleanup effort that will focus on multiple locations over several weeks. This project provides several opportunities to serve in various capacities. Projects start April 16th and run on a weekly basis through the end of May. This will be a unique opportunity to combine your efforts with other volunteers to make a difference in Omaha. To learn more about the Spring Clean Up Program, see their brochure , or call this number: (402) 444-4636. Boyer Chute Wildlife Refuge With a wildlife refuge so close to the city, there’s always something you can do to help out near home. The refuge is open to volunteer work. Volunteers will help with taking care of local wildlife, maintenance of trails, and various other activities. Visit their website for more information. Adopt-A-Highway It may remind you of an episode on Seinfeld, but the Adopt-A-Highway program is an important part of keeping roads safe and clean for everyone. Sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Roads, the program is always looking for volunteers to help clean up; and you don’t even need to adopt a road to help out! The Great Nebraska Trash Off is an annual event held in April/May every year. Last year, 3,409 volunteers helped clean 526 miles of highway. To learn more about adopting a highway, or participating in the Great Nebraska Trash Off, visit the Adopt-A-Highway website . Now that spring is here, there are so many opportunities to help make Omaha a better place to live. These are just a few of the many ways you can get involved this spring. Do you know of another community service event this April? Let us know in the comments!

Spring Cleaning, Modern Style-image

Hanging carpets on the clothesline in the fresh Omaha air and beating them with a broom to clean them may have been the way your great-grandma did her spring cleaning, but chances are it’s not the way you do yours. But a springtime cleaning may be just the thing to get set for a busy summer. In today’s blog post, in the spirit of Spring Cleaning, we’ve got some ideas to help you organize your Spaces Apartment. Label It. A label is such a simple thing, and it’s one of the key components of being organized. Label your containers for ease in getting things put away in the right place. And it makes it easier for people who may be helping you, too. Chunk It. Sometimes looking at a whole room that needs to be decluttered is simply overwhelming. The answer to the riddle, “How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time,” holds true when it comes to getting a whole room organized. Break down tasks into doable chunks. And by doing a little bit at a time, the larger goal is accomplished. Delegate It. Do you have to do it yourself? If not, consider delegating the task to someone else. For example, the stack of mending you keep meaning to get to. It may be well worth the money to simply find someone to do it for you. Time It. Give yourself fifteen or twenty minutes to work. Start with a drawer or a closet, and go through each room in your apartment until you’ve sorted through everything. As you sort, designate things as 1) Throw Away, 2) Give Away, and 3) Keep. These three options make it simple to go through a desk or closet quickly and efficiently, and end up only with things you want to keep. When you have a place for everything, it is much easier to keep the clutter to a minimum, so use shelves, baskets, totes, boxes, etc. — whatever it takes to organize your storage space — and label it! Oh, and don’t forget to vacuum all of the rugs. Feel free to share your favorite organizing tip in the comments section!.

It’s Almost 3.14, Do You Know Where Your Pie Is-image

What do you get when you take the sun and divide its circumference by its diameter? Pi in the sky. That’s right folks, Pi Day will be upon us soon, and it will be time to get your 3.14 game on. Of course, for many people the day means celebrating with your favorite slice of pie. And if it’s a pi pie, so much the better. Whether you eat a pie at your favorite Omaha restaurant or make your own, it’s the perfect way to mark the date. If you decide to make your own pies, we’ve got you covered. But first, another riddle: What do you get when you take green cheese and divide its circumference by its diameter? Check for the answer at the end of the blog. To get you started, we’ve put together some pie recipes to try out: Pizza Pie: use pepperoni for the top, and lay it out in the pi symbol. Cutestuff Cooks has a great homemade pizza recipe for the crust and sauce. Don’t let the blog title fool you, it really is a good pizza recipe. And now for the cream and fruit varieties: Apple Pie by Betty Crocker; a trusted name in baking for decades shares a time-tested apple pie recipe just like grandma used to make. (Grandma was probably neighbors with Betty!) Pecan Pie from The Pioneer Woman Cooks; not only do you get step-by-step directions, with pictures, you also get the delightful commentary by the Pioneer Woman herself. Enjoy this crunchy, nutty favorite. Banana Cream Pie from Bon Appetit is perfect to complete your Pi Day celebration. Filled with creamy richness, a hint of chocolate, and piled on top with whipped cream, this pie will be a hit. And if that’s not enough pie, here are some more: 10 Pies for Pi Day . With this many pie options, you may want to schedule the clubhouse at Spaces and throw a Pi Day Party. Oh, our earlier riddle. We didn’t forget; the answer: Moon Pie, of course. We love to receive your feedback. What is your favorite Pi Day tradition? Your favorite pie? Please feel free to share in the comment section.
